Last Member Of the Original SAS Dies Aged 92

01.02.2012

The last surviving member of the original Special Air Service (SAS) has died, aged 92. Jimmy Storie joined L Detachment, Special Air Service Brigade, in 1941. He was one of 66 men selected by SAS founder David Stirling to fight the Axis powers in the deserts of North Africa. The unit carried out numerous raids, destroying fuel and ammo dumps and hundreds of aircraft parked on Axis airfields.

Jimmy Storie was captured after two years of operations with the SAS and was held in a prisoner of war camp in Czechoslovakia until the end of the war. He died at his home in the village of Muchals, Aberdeenshire, on January 8.
