Prince William Visits FPGRM

19.10.2007

Prince William today visited the Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines (FPGRM) at Faslane (Her Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Clyde). The Prince joined the FPGRM on maneuvers along the River Clyde.

Faslane is home to Britain's fleet of Trident ICBM submarines. One of Fleet Protection Group's roles is the guarding of Britain's nuclear deterrent.

Prince William. joined 4 Royal Marines onboard an Offshore Raiding Craft as it patrolled the waterways around the submarine base. The ORC, armed with twin GPMGs and with a top speed of 40 knots makes an ideal patrol boat for the FPGRM.

The Prince later took part in a ship boarding exercise in which a 'suspect' vessel was simultaneously boarded by the FPGRM from boats and a helicopter.
