Royal Marines / Police Thames Exercise

20.01.2012

Yesterday saw a series of security exercises along the River Thames in London. Royal Marines, including 539 Assault Squadron , armed police from CO19, the Marine Policing Unit (MPU) and a Royal Navy Lynx MK8 helicopter put on a show of strength designed to reassure tourists and deter terrorists.

A range of tactics were practised on the river, including police and Royal Marines teams taking turns in boarding a vessel while underway.
