SAS Soldier Killed In Afghanistan Operation

24.12.2013

A British soldier, believed to have been a member of the Special Forces, has been killed in action in Afghanistan.[1] The soldier was referred to by the MoD as a member of the Royal Engineers but it has been widely reported that he was serving with the Special Air Service.

The SAS soldier was killed during a raid on a Taliban target east of Kabul. His death takes the total British killed-in-action figures to 447, since hostilities began in October 2001.

Update: it has now been revealed that the soldier killed was Captain Richard Holloway, 29, from County Durham. His commander called him "a natural leader" who was "revered by the Afghans whom he mentored tirelessly".[2]
